The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), a 172-year-old institution and the first bank in Southeast Asia, has always been a trailblazer in the banking sector. Today, with a workforce of 18,000, BPI has taken another significant step in its journey of modernization by partnering with Darwinbox to revolutionize its HR processes and enhance employee experience.

At the heart of this transformation is Real-Time HR Express Assist (RHEA), BPI’s new HR platform powered by Darwinbox. Designed to be a one-stop shop for all HR needs, RHEA integrates processes such as Time & Attendance, Performance Management, Recruitment & Onboarding, and issue resolution through a Helpdesk. The platform also fosters employee connection via Vibe, Darwinbox’s built-in social network for enterprises, all accessible on mobile.
Maria Virginia Eala, Chief Human Resources Officer at BPI, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: “Our partnership with Darwinbox marks a significant milestone in our journey to enhance the employee experience at BPI. With RHEA, we hope to empower our employees to achieve and do more as we continue to pursue our vision to build a better Philippines – one family, one community at a time.”
Before implementing RHEA, BPI faced challenges with fragmented systems for critical HR functions like compensation, learning, and attendance. The need for a unified platform that embodies excellence, one of BPI’s core values, became apparent. By consolidating these systems, RHEA now provides managers with comprehensive visibility into team performance, compensation, and organizational changes, making team management more effective and seamless.
The partnership between Darwinbox and BPI stands out for its efficiency. Despite the complexities often associated with large-scale implementations, RHEA was delivered on time, thanks to the collaborative efforts between the two teams. BPI’s HR leadership acknowledges Darwinbox’s deep understanding of HR needs, rooted in the platform’s development by HR professionals.
This successful collaboration underscores BPI’s commitment to creating a fast, easy, and meaningful HR experience for its employees while setting a new benchmark in HR technology adoption in the banking sector.
